Hello, All,

This is not a surprise. I had alluded to this in a post earlier today:
"
In the more recent versions of svgalib you can turn off the
need for svgalib_helper by setting parameters in the config file.
In earlier versions you needed to set it before compiling. i
am at work and so can't give you the details, but its not hard
to find the info.
"
I thought this had previously been discussed on this list. Matan states on
his website:
"
1.9.23 - Includes a lot of patches from Hans de Goede. Including making of
nohelper a runtime option instead of compile time, 64 bit cleanups, many
drivers bug fixing, and a lot of other improvements. There is also an
update of lrmi from version 0.6 to 0.9.
"
So,
[a] for versions of svgalib before 1.9.23 you set the nohelper parameter
before compiling, in the Makefile, as "NO_HELPER = n".
[b] For 1.9.23 and thereafter you set it at runtime in the libvga.cofig
file by uncommenting the line that begins "NoHelper" as I noted in my
second post of the day regarding this subject. If your version of
libvga.config is missing such a line, just add a new line at the very
beginning just after "Helper /dev/svga", which is probably the first
executable line in the file.
In summary, if your problem is that you get the svgalib_helper error
message when you attempt to run programs that use svgalib, then it is easy
to fix if you just look at the version of svgalib you are running and make
the change necessary for your version. The two possibilities have been
described above.
For svgalib-1.9.24 you do [b]. That is why Leif couldn't set it in
Makefile.cfg using the "NO_HELPER" option.
for svgalib1.9.22 and before you do [a].
Richard, have you applied the correct option for your version of svgalib
as noted above?
Did it not correct the svgalib error?

Roger
