Dear all,
I'm hard at work to get a Delta44 being recognized on my PIII 500MHz PC with Mandrake 9.1 and OSS. (398g)
Linrad runs happily with the AC97 as I/O device but so far the the Delta 44 is only "seen" in the OSS config menu (after "soundconf") on the top part of the screen together with the AudioPCI97. I save and exit from this menu after selecting autodetect soundcards.
OSS notes that one or more PCI soundcards share their IRQ with another card, which may cause problems.
It suggests in my case (non-functional PCI soundcard) to use BIOS PCI/PnP to allocate a private IRQ for the device and to look in lib/oss/docs/README.Irqsharing for more info.
**At first, this file was empty but it appears that I had 2 OSS versions running (one in lib/oss and the other in usr/lib/oss), so I deleted the latter, which contained the oldest OSS-version and now these help files contain text and advice, as are similar files mentioned lower in this note.
OSS continues: the following IRQ numbers are shared with a non-sound device: 15 and 47.
After "soundon" the LIMITED OSS driver license states: the following OSS driver is required for my current hardware config: ENVY24 and WARNING: some of the devices failed to initialize. See lib/oss/soundon.log for more info.
BTW: I read in one of the files that the OSS demo license contains the ENVY24-option.
Also it states: some common system setup errors were detected: 1) PCI interrupt not allocated by BIOS, please look at lib/oss/errors.log for troubleshooting instructions.
So far, I pulled out the Ethernet card from its PCI slot and replaced it by the Delta 44 (which came from another slot) but this made no change... (see higher)
So I remain with the advice in the different OSS help/log files:
-Put PnP OS to NO, OFF, DISABLED on the PCI/PnP setup screen.
-Put Plug&Play OS option to NO in the Boot setup screen.
Where can I find these setup screens? Does this ring a bell to other Linrad-players?
Any advice to a Linux-newbie is very much appreciated!
I'm awaiting feedback from OSS but their response is slow in this holiday period.
Thanks a lot!
Seasons greetings,
Michel, ON7EH
