[linrad] Re: Knoppix sound issue
Hi Brian,
Hello Lief, my response in inline below. Sorry to get back so late; my
time is not my own lately.
but when I
select the main Linrad screen to view via Weak Signal CW Mode or Normal
CW Mode the screen paints with a bunch of "Filters not calibrated",
Yes, this is normal. The system IS uncalibrated.
OK, got it.
the
wide and baseband graphs, mouse cursor (centered) and then nothing. No
mouse, keyboard, or graphics updates. I must Cntl-C to get back to the
shell prompt.
Any ideas what might be happening here. I would appreciate any input.
I'm sooo close...
For some unknown reason your system is probably overloaded.
Indeed, it does appear that way. In fact I ran a 'top' command in the
other virtual console and the CPU ran up to 99.9% on linrad processing..
Not much swapping going on though. Here is one of lines from top:
PID User PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM Time+ Command
4466 root 25 0 37328 1584 924 R 99.9 0.3 0:45.77 linrad
Delete the par_wcw file so you can get into the parameter setup menu
(Normally you can reach it by pressing "X" on the main menu.)
Deselect second fft, set minimum storage time for fft1 and for the baseband.
(If you did not select the mlocall function your system might be overloaded
by heavy disk swapping)
The above top output was running no second FFT, 200 Hz BW on first FFT,
0 second storage time on first FFT, and 9 seconds storage time on
output. The sampling rate was set to 8000 Hz on both first FFT and
output. I performed the test with both AFC and no AFC...
The problem might also be the mouse type. Does mousetest work properly?
Mouse appears to work fine with mousetest after I set the device to
/dev/psaux...
When I perform the sound card test I get a vary low utilization on the
FFT processing. Why is the main screen eating all the CPU time up?
Thanks,
Brian
