[linrad] Fedora

Hi All,

I found a book, "Red Hat Fedora Linux 2" at the local
book store the other day and could not resist it;-)

Installing Fedora itself was trivial:-)

svgalib-1.9.19 installed with the make install command
without errors.

Nasm is already included in Fedora, Linrad installed
without complaints.

After inserting the svgalib_helper.ko module I found
svgatest to run fine but mousetest did not work.

The mouse driver is no longer /dev/mouse so line 111
in /etc/vga/libvga.config has to be changed to
 mdev /dev/input/mice
This change made mousetest run fine too.

Trying to start Linrad causes a system crasch if a
"Y" (recommended) is given as an answer to the question
"Use mlockall to prevent swapping". The reason is that
mlockall(MCL_CURRENT) causes a crasch when issued
after vga_init(). This is obviousely a bug in svgalib or
Fedora. Linrad works fine if N is answered here.

I was unable to get ALSA going but OSS works fine.

The main advantage of Fedora as it seems to me right
now is support for USB 2.0 removable disks. The new
Linux kernel, 2.6.5 also has much smaller latency
than 2.4.xx kernels. 0.0002 seconds for Fedora 2
as compared to 0.0132 for RadHat 9. I do not think
it matters for Linrad though.
