[linrad] Debian/Knoppix - editors ; Re: [linrad] Re: Corrections (text); Re: [linrad] Linrad install
Hello Ramiro!
Will add your additional comments below (corrected) to the "Z"-file,
and send the result to Leif. I am now at a different address, so I
will do it later (as I do not have the file here; forgot usual Bcc:).
About the editor programs..... I think I spoiled a few configuration
files using 'vi', as it was the only editor I remembered by name when
starting Linux-activities again. At least 'vi' is very difficult to
manage without previous experience. Next I will try the 'nano' you
suggested.
I was not too pedantic about correcting all debians to Debians in
your original text, but since you are so enthusiastic about it now,
maybe we should upgrade everything to Debian with a big "D", hi hi.
As Knoppix is a Debian-based distro, I think everything would work
according your installation procedure there as well. It gave me an
operational XFree86 environment with version Knoppix 3.8.1 , kernel
2.6.11 right from the Live_CD (execute 'knoppix-installer'). Only I
should probably switch back to runlevel 3, when I am going to run
'Linrad' with maximum stability.

Gracias senor Ramiro!
Thanks for the nice installation guide. I learned a lot of new
things there about Debian-matters besides the actual procedure.
There were the normal "slips of the pen" (about a dozen). Please
find attached two Word-files. In version A you see my suggestions
for the corrections (so you can review them) and version Z is the
one with the corrections accepted. In case the [Linrad]-list is
not accepting attached files, I have also sent these directly
to you and Leif (SM5BSZ). Thanks again for the good work.

Great, great, great dear Zaba! Many thanks for the corrections!!!!! You
have been very quick!:
I am very happy to provide these guides for quickly setting up Debian. I
would like to see one day Debian as the standard Ham Radio Linux
Distribution, hi. I think that is the best one for the ham radio
experimenter. Well, after the evangelizing.....
Just want you to add the next notes at the begining for the newbies:
*************************
NOTES:
"$" commands must be executed by a normal user.
"#" commands must be executed by the "root" user.
Debian comes with 2 text editors installed by default and can be used to
quickly edit configuration files (of course you can install whatever
editor you prefer after Debian install):
-"nvi" is a clone of the classic "vi" editor present in any Unix machine.
It can be invoked as "vi text_file_name". It is not recommended for the
newbies.
-"nano" is a very easy to use and intuitive text editor by the GNU
Project. I would recommend it for this guide if you do not have any Unix
experience.
"nano text_file_name" will do the job.
**************************
Thank you very much, and I will appreciate the corrections again!
73, Ramiro, EA1ABZ.
