Linrad requires you to be logged in as root.
Preferrably on a terminal and not under X.
With modern distributions it may be difficult for the newcomer
to get into runmode 3 (terminal mode). If you have this problem,
edit the file /etc/inittab and change the initdefault line to:
id:3:initdefault: (root privileges are needed for the editing)
Then reboot your system and log in as root.
Whenever you want run mode 5 (graphical environment),
just type startx.
I am aware that running as root is not generally accepted
in the Linux community where focus is on security in
multi-user general purpose systems. Linrad is realtime
(or next to) and it may need access to a parallel port
placed in I/O space where only root can get permission.
If you really want to run as a regular user, it can be
done, but I do not know exactly what to do because personally
I have no interest.
