[linrad] Linrd installation...a few comments
Hi, Peter!
Just a quick note based on recent posts. I have already
posted to you what I have done here.
Read the responses you got via the Linrad reflector
carefully.
For example, debian plus alsa; will it work with two
soundcards, one of which is the Delta44? That is the proper
way to run Linrad, with 96 KHz sampling and thus with I/Q
mixing, with nearly 96 KHz bandwidth of the display. I
don't think those using that combination have made it work.
Ask anyone who is recommending an approach: Do they have it
working fully with two soundcards, one of which is the
Delta44 or equivalent, running nearly 96 KHz bandwidth?
Have they made contacts on the air? How about with dual
polarity and I/Q mixing?
All of this has been done with Red Hat and Delta44 etc. I
think NOT with the other combinations.
You don't need the professional version of Red Hat; get the
simple version.
Let me know what you think.
I have sent a copy of this to the list so that IF people
have gotten nearly 96 KHz bandwidth fully working with other
approaches with I/Q mixing and dual polarity receive, they
can say so. I am not aware of it, except for Leif, of
course doing it.
To those on the list: if you have gotten your version of
Linrad fully working with the 96 KHz sampling rate, I/Q
mixing, and dual polarity receive please post your 'flavor'
of Linrad and the soundcards and video cards used.
To Peter, you can also go to
http://www.nitehawk.com/linrad_dat/ to see what systems
people have used. BUT BEWARE, many of these were just using
a single soundcard, and operating at audio bandwidths, not
96 KHz. That is not using Linrad to its fullest potential,
and not what you likely want to do if you are planning to
use it for EME or serious weak signal work.
